Pictures from my second trip to Guiuan, in Eastern Samar.
Mostly just the bones and skeletons of the houses that are left standing.
Sunset over the UN Hub
Rather large and beautiful gecko…
Rain…
Skeletons of houses…
Bit wet for laundry day….
More house-bones
I really do love this truck…
Red Cross Hospital
I assume this used to be either a hospital or a large pharmacy…
Bladder tanks full of water in the town centre near the main market:
This picture is stolen from Google – it shows you what the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a 16th century colonial church, and one of the oldest in The Philippines, looked like before Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda:
And here’s what it looks like now:
View through the door….
And from the side….
More skeletons of people’s homes…
For some inexplicable reason, so many houses seem to have a chair or a sofa that has survived everything. Weird.
This is my favourite photo, even if I do say so myself…
Laundry day…
But don’t worry, cos….
A line of very smart put-puts (tricycles)
Miss!!! Picture! Picture! So cute….
Action shot! Splash!
And I FINALLY made it to the beach! Only for a quick half an hour on Sunday, but it was worth it! So beautiful!
The waves were MASSIVE! Really quite dangerous, but luckily I didn’t go in very far – barely past my knees, but that was less because of the waves, and more because of my colleagues who kept pointing out bluebottles (jellyfish that sting), spiky sea urchins, and all sorts of “you know, that thing that looks like a rock and it bites you through your shoes?”.
Another lovely sunset…
My new digs at the UN Hub – 8 tents inside a bigger tent:
Not too shabby at all – even has power so I finally have a fan at night!
