Well, while I’m working through my backlog of posts that I’ve missed cos I’m so lax, here are some pics and stories from my recent trip home to see some family and friends in the UK in May. I managed to pack a lot in, and had a marvellous time!
May 2015
Driving home from the airport – grey damp skies, and bright yellow rapeseed oil in full bloom.
Home!
Opening all sorts of exciting parcels that were waiting for me at home – new hat, new dress, etc
Tiggy remembered me and came for a quick cuddle! Even better, the vet has declared that she’s doing much better and can come off the medication! Woohoo! Here’s to healthy and happy pets!
New crafty book to play with!
Got home just in time to vote… not that it helped much sadly… (and don’t panic, I haven’t broken any laws by taking photos of my ballot paper – this was a poster of the ballot on the wall outside the polling station, and I asked permission before I took the photo). I was a little tempted to vote for the mad hatter though….
Getting a much-needed pedicure before a night out with some of my besties!
I can’t express how much I missed Grazia while I was in Iraq. I love my trashy magazines…
And another awesome night with more friends. If you’ve ever played the Rizla game, you’ll understand how difficult it is to guess “Butros Butros Ghali”. And my evil friends have now managed to do it to me twice, so I decided to immortalise said Rizla in the tobacco tin hall of fame…
Getting ready for another night out with another bestie – on our way to see The Levellers at the Colchester Arts Center!
The Levellers – still awesome, although the average age in the audience made me feel extremely young…
In case you didn’t know the Arts Centre used to be a church – very groovy place to see a gig.
We got a little over-excited when we bumped into Mark Chadwick (lead singer of The Levellers) in the pub after the gig and he decided to hang out with us for the rest of the night – and well into the lock-in that followed….
Me and Mark, obviously. He let me wear his hat, as long as I covered up with sweaty hat-hair for the picture.
Recovering from an epic-night-out hangover is easier with a cheeky monkey like this little lady to help cheer you up!
Bunnies!
Up to Yorkshire for a lovely spring walk in the woods, with all the bluebells in full bloom.
Me and the Moomin and her best friend in the bluebells!
Wild Garlic in full bloom all over the place!
Tasty slap-up Thai meal!
Starting the birthday celebrations with some wine and a posh dessert with sparklers!
And then continuing the birthday fun with cocktails and some good chat out in Oxford
Colin the Caterpillar cake! Birthday round 3!
Brilliant birthday card. Love it.
My niece loves her new My Little Pony doll. Auntie Maya for the win!
Bit of fun family playtime at the Oxford Story Museum…
I love the Storyloom at the Story Museum – I think it’s one of my favourite things. Anyone going to Oxford must visit the museum and check it out – it’s really interactive and great for kids!
Walking around the deer park at one of the colleges. I’ve never seen this many buttercups in one meadow before! Reminds me of a children’s storybook we used to have about a lion in the meadow.
Visiting another good friend who recently had a gorgeous baby girl
Tiggy comes for one last cuddle before I head back to Iraq. It’s been a good trip home!
