This year I’m going to try and read another 25 books… Got a great stash to start the year with!

This year I have set myself the same goal as last year – to read 25 books!
Got a good xmas haul this year so should keep me going for at least a few months!
I was feeling a little underwhelmed by my goal as 25 books doesn’t seem like a lot (I used to be able to read up to 40 books a year before I had kids!) – however my daughter has pointed out that if I include all of the story books I read to my youngest daughter every night at bedtime I am probably reading around 1000 books a year, so that certainly made me feel better!
Continue readingEven though I barely read much of anything last year I still enjoy setting myself a target for reading, so my dad and I are once again embarking on the Popsugar Reading Challenge.
At the moment I am starting with my lovely haul of Christmas books and finding categories to slot them into, but once I’ve read those, will need to have a proper look at the list and try to select some interesting books!
I am determined to read more this year than I managed last year, though I expect I will as I’ll be on adoption leave at some point so will hopefully have a few moments of “me” time to read here and there…
I have started out strong in January, but suspect this will tail off at some point….
Continue readingFor the 5th year in a row, my dad and I are embarking on the Popsugar reading challenge. It’s been a fairly slow reading year for me what with one thing and another, so I haven’t read much at all this year but here’s what I’ve read in 2021
Book 1: The Survivors, by Jane Harper
Category: A book published in 2021

I love this author. Her first book The Dry was AMAZING and has just been made into a movie. I didn’t love Force of Nature, her second book, but her third The Lost Man and this one were both also excellent. They are proper, gripping, page turners. There is almost always a murder or suspected murder and a whodunnit style exploration of a small town and it’s inhabitants, who all seem to have secrets and motives etc. They are quintessentially Australian and the scenery and setting is vividly pictured.
This was technically released in Australia in 2020, but is not released in the UK until later in Jan 2021 so I’m counting it. My friend in Oz sent it to me as a Christmas present so I was able to read it before it’s even released here, and I literally raced through it in 2 days. A strong start to the year! Continue reading
Once again my Dad and I are embarking on the Popsugar Reading Challenge, though unlike the previous years I will be aiming for 25 books this year rather than 40 as not finding as much time for reading this year! If you want to see my previous year’s challenges they are here: 2019, 2018, 2017. Continue reading
3rd year in a row, my dad and I are doing the Popsugar Reading Challenge.
Here’s how I’m doing so far:
Category – A book becoming a movie in 2019
Book 1: Big Little Lies – Liane Moriarty

I recently read this ENORMOUS beast of a book, and it was so punishing to read that I felt it deserved it’s own book review.
I’ll try to write a summary of my thoughts on this book without spoilers first, and will warn you when there might be spoilers in case you plan to read it sometime yourself…

After a year and a half of book challenges, and plenty of books I found fairly mediocre, I thought I was share a list of some of the really good books I’ve read over the years. It’s not exhaustive, but … Continue reading
