Hi everyone,
Sorry for yet another brief hiatus – I have loads of posts planned to catch you up on what I’ve been up to, so will be posting some catch-up blogs imminently!
🙂
So, although I haven’t specifically written about it on here, last year my sister was diagnosed with bowel cancer, and she and I decided to do some fundraising.
As we thought she might lose her hair during chemo, I decided to let her live vicariously through my hair instead, so after raising nearly ÂŁ1,000, I went off to see my lovely hairdresser (at Vente Tsunami in Headington, Oxford in case you’re interested – they are the best!).
Me and K ready to get started – I think she was more excited about it than I was!

Well after my earlier post “Waiting for Spring to Sproing” when I dug everything up and was desperately waiting for everything to grow, Spring has finally arrived! Here’s a reminder of how it all looked back in February when I … Continue reading
Here’s a glimpse of my latest DIY project – my dining table, which is incredibly nice and sturdy, but a rather old, battered and stained pine, was in dire need of a makeover. Here it is with Stanley the toolbox on it…

Also one of my chairs broke a while ago, leaving me with only 2, which is awkward if I want to have more than one person over for dinner at a time… Continue reading

In a recent bout of patchworking I’ve been making some cushions – some as housewarming gifts for people I know who have recently moved house, and some just for me. Step one is obviously to go on a massive shopping … Continue reading

My mate and I went to Berlin for fabulous weekend of sightseeing, drinking and general fun. It’s a fantastic city and I fell in love with it immediately! Firstly, an early birthday present, and possibly the greatest card I’ve ever … Continue reading
As many of you know, I have long maintained that the machines are out to get me…
However, it occurred to me after a conversation with my brother last year, that a number of other things in the natural world have also attempted to kill me, or at the very least, placed me in the “oh my god, that was close, I could have died” category.
So, I decided to list all of my near-misses and brushes with death, (crocodiles, killer bees, cars, ceiling fans, etc) to see who the real evil mastermind is – technology, nature, or my own stupidity (try not to jump to conclusions people, let’s see this through).
Working backwards from the beginning therefore… Continue reading

A little work trip in April took me to Washington DC – a first time for me, and in between work things, I had time for a little exploring and sightseeing. Washington was a lovely, and incredibly clean city, with … Continue reading
Another new favourite from my travels – this one is a sort of hot and sour chicken noodle soup. It’s yellow – presumably heavy on the turmeric and very delicious!
The key ingredient I use is a cheater’s pre-mixed spice packet to make the sauce, although I’m sure google would probably be able to tell you what combination of spices would do…
The traditional version has chicken, noodles, soup, and often some fresh greens on top and crispy noodles. However I like to add all sorts of veggies so this is my somewhat altered version!
Well now, yesterday I had the most relaxing Sunday in a long time, and I think it was linked to the fact that I sort-of accidentally had a screen-free day.
I had a nice lie-in, and when I got up around 10am, the sun was shining and it was a glorious day outside. I took my cup of tea out into the garden, got out the outdoor bench cushions for my tiki hut, and decided to pick up a book from my bookshelf and have a quiet read in the sunshine.

For the rest of the day, I pottered about, but after a while I actively chose not to check my phone, turn on the TV, or check my emails, skype or laptop. Continue reading
